Attached is a Client Information Form to assist you in preparing for your first meeting with Barbara.

Barbara’s solution-oriented approach assists clients to resolve issues such as parenting, child and spousal support and property division using one of several available process options.  She is a certified Collaborative Family Law practitioner, and also carries on an active practice representing clients in traditional mediation and in negotiated settlements.  Barbara also assists clients planning to live together or marry by negotiating Domestic Contracts which clarify financial and other arrangements.

Barbara believes that in the right circumstances, Collaborative Family Law can be the least destructive and most beneficial, custom fitting and transformative resolution process available to family law clients.

Barbara Gordon has practiced exclusively as a family lawyer in Toronto for over 25 years. She has been in solo practice since 1998 and commenced her association with Michael Kleinman in 2011. Barbara is known for her warmth and creativity while working through the various complex and stressful problems that face her family law clients. Barbara ensures that each client is educated about the law and in control of his or her case every step of the way.

In Collaborative Family Law separating spouses agree to work together with their lawyers (and financial or parenting Collaborative Professionals if needed) to generate options co-operatively to resolve their differences without going to court.

Barbara was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1989, after completing her B.A. with Honours at York University  and her LL.B. degree from the University of Western Ontario.  She is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association. Barbara is also an active member of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation, the International Academy of Collaborative Practitioners and Collaborative Practice Toronto.  She sits on the Board of Collaborative Practice Toronto and chairs the Marketing Committee of Collaborative Practice Toronto; which is generating exciting initiatives to bring a better awareness of Collaborative Family Law and its benefits to other professionals and to the public.  Barbara has presented at the Law Society of Upper Canada Continuing Legal Education program on Collaborative Family Law.

Barbara maintains a work life balance that enables her to pursue a lifelong love of music. She is a Toronto vocalist who performs regularly in well known Toronto jazz venues, and has recently released her latest CD, a "big band" album, For the Record. Given Barbara’s primary focus on her law practice, this very fulfilling and exciting musical project was several years in the making
